ANNOTATION

For Riley Wilder, breaking out of her shell during freshman year in New York City is only compounded by family drama and the fact that her budding text-message relationship with a mysterious secret admirer turns out to be not quite what she expects.  Writer Brian Wood and illustrator Ryan Kelly join forces for this Manga-style-format black-and-white graphic novel with cross-gender appeal, along with the sequel, The New York Five (2011).

BOOKTALK (The Graphic Form / Wrap Back to the Title)

Riley Wilder and three classmates—The New York Four—make their way through freshman year of college in The Big Apple, searching for part-time work, a short-term sublet apartment, and lifelong romance.  For Riley, however, breaking out of her shell in the face of family drama may be easier said than done when her mysterious text-message relationship with a secret admirer turns out to be not quite what she expects.

Life in the big city can be a little intimidating, but it’s nothing The New York Four can’t handle, right?

Writer Brian Wood and illustrator Ryan Kelly join forces for this Manga-style-format black-and-white prequel to the follow-up release, The New York Five (2011).  Although DC Comics released The New York Four through its now-defunct Minx imprint for young female readers, this graphic novel speaks to everyone.
